according to her interview on TV this morning she just wanted to try something like that on an album because she likes to sing something different. She also said that if her mother doesn't like it then she doesn't do it and her mother was surprised that she did like the songs the way Kathryn has done them

She has a stunning voice so as long as she is going to continue her classical career I'm ok with that.

But I think it is sad when attractive pretty classical musicians try to market themselves as pop artists .....

Well, it's all about "crossover potential" isn't it. If you're a (for instance) country music artist, the record company wants you to appeal to pop listeners, and rock listeners, et cetera, so you dilute your music. If you play contemporary punk, the record company wants you to appeal to pop listeners, and so on. The people I like to listen to would never have put up with that piffle.

The story goes that, around 1980, some snotweasel or other at Atlantic Records told AC/DC "we want a disco-type single from you." The chaps had the sense to say "Okay," rather than "Don't be stupid." So they came up with "You Shook Me All Night Long." No compromises, no nonsense. You gotta admire 'em.
