Arthur C Clarke 16 December 1917 – 18 March 2008

I was very sad indeed to learn this morning of the death of one of my heroes yesterday.

Arthur C Clarke passed away at his home in Shri Lanka, from, as my Nanna would have said, "Lack of breath."

There's nothing I can say that would do justice to the man that others can't say infinately better then me. But he was a visionary genius right up there with the greats Galileo,Newton,Brahe,Sagan, and Hawking and a huge inspiration to me as I was growing up. I've missed seeing him and hearing from him in recent years.

I hope he has become part of that universal consciousness that he defined in his Space Odessey Series of novels, and is to date the best explaination of heaven and the afterlife that I have ever come across.

"When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong."
"The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible."
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

A wise man.

Another Obituary - Gone to a Better Plaice

According to Aunty, Actor John Hewer, who was best known for playing Captain Birds Eye in the British TV ads for fish finger, has died at the age of 86.

When you 'Mullet' over he's probably gone to a better 'Plaice', 'sleeping with the fishes'.
God rest his Sole.

Initially Police were called into investigate his death after it was suggested that there was something 'Fishy' going on and that he had been 'Battered' to death with a 'Rock'.

Police said later admitted that the investigation had 'Floundered' after it was proved that this was just a 'Red Herring' spread by some 'Old Trout' who 'Harboured' a grudge and kept 'Carping' on in the local 'Prawn-Shop'. Police later confirmed that that could find no 'Porpoise' to the woman's claims and that she was merely very 'Shellfish' and 'Crabby' 'Old Trout', though she had maintained that she'd been "Done up like a Kipper".

Mr Hewer made a few 'Squid' over the 30 years he played the role, and passed away peacefully retirement home Brinsworth House in Middlesex.

(...and yes I know........I'm a very very bad man.)

I'm going to a proper Gig......yes I am.

It is widely recognised that I am so un-hip that it is a wonder that my legs don't drop off....

But tonight Lady and Gentlemen I am going to a proper Gig.....Oh yes I am.

I'm off to see the band Amsterdam, who were championed by the late, great, John Peel at the Borderline , just off Charring Cross Road.

If I ever learned how to use tag'n'stuff here on Livejournal I'm sure I could reference the last gig they held at the Borderline. But I haven't so I can't. So there.

So I'll be going along with the usual crowd, Sharon, Barney(and plus 1), Leslie and who ever else Barney drags along.

This particular gig launches their new Album Arm in Arm and is the press night.

Should be a good 'un.
