Fencing Sculptor's Diary

The Ramblings of a Reluctant Civil Servant

Joyously 'Who' !
me

Today hasn't really gone to plan as I have had to spend most of it so far dashing around doing domestic stuff cooking clean washing...(how dirty clothes can one person have since last week!)

But. I have really enjoyed it because I have been bouncing around the House (yes Bouncing!) Listening to the Soundtrack to Doctor Who the New Series which Sharon bought for my Birthday last week. It is absolutely fantastic one of the best soundtracks I have heard....maybe I feel this because I have wanted the music since the new series since it burst onto our screens in 2005...and while that is I am sure , part of the reason I'm loving it is also because the music is so evocative of the episode for which they were composed.

Tracks like 'I'm Coming to get you', Madame De Pompadour, Take you right back to the on screen action, especially the absolutely heartwrentching 'Doomsday' which accompanied the scene where the Doctor and Rose are in Separate universes after the Battle in torchwood London or 'Hologram' where the Doctor is saying good Rose .....brings a lump to your throat.

Two of my favorite tracks, apart from the AWESOME re working of Grainers original theme are the two songs performed by Neil Hannon.

'Song for Ten' and 'Love Don't Roam' are great uplifting sing along songs that can only be described as 'Joyously Who!'.

I hunted around for the lyrics online but I couldn't find accurate versions (to be honest the words are very clear so don't know why there are so many duff versions floating around) so I have transcribed them below for prosperity.

THERE FOLLOWS AN INTERESTING OBSERVATION (In CAPS just in case you, dear reader, don't recognised the significance of the observation...)

Song for Ten was taken from the First Christmas Special , immediately following the Doctors regeneration from Chris Eccleston to David Tennant. At the end of the Story the New Doctor picks out his new clothes and returns with Rose to enjoy a Christmas dinner with her, Jackie and Mickey. This song was written before Season Two was finished..... but seriously check out the Lyrics....they are so prophetic...appearing to foretell of Rose's departure at the end of Season two....spookily prophetic in fact...almost as if the lyrics fell back through time... !

Right I have some vacuuming to do...where's my walkman ...I have more Who to listen to !!!

The Lyrics follow:

Song for Ten

Well I woke up today
And the world was a restless place
It could have been that way for me

And I wandered around
And I thought of your face
That Christmas looking back at me

Wo-oh-oh

I wish today was just like every other day
'Cause today has been the best day
Everything I ever dreamed

And I started to walk
Pretty soon I will run
And I'll come running back to you

'Cause I followed my star
And that's what you are
I've had a merry time with you

Wo-oh-oh

I wish today was just like every other day
'Cause today has been the best day
Everything I ever dreamed

So have a good life
Do it for me
Make me so proud
Like you want me to be
Where ever you are
I'm thinking of you
Oceans apart
I want you to know

La la la la ah-ah-ah
La la la la ah-ah-ah
La la la la ah-ah-ah
Yeah

Well I woke up today
And your on the other side
Our time will never come again
But if you can still dream
Close your eyes and will see
That you can see me now and then

Yeah oh-oh-h

I wish today was just like every other day
'Cause today has been the best day
Everything I ever dreamed

I wish today was just like every other day
'Cause today has been the best day
Everything I ever dreamed

Love Don't Roam

Well, I've roamed about this Earth
With just a suitcase in my hand,
And I've met some bug-eyed Joe's,
I've met the blessed, I've met the damned.
But of all the strange, strange creatures
In the air, at sea, on land,
Oh, my girl, my girl, my precious girl,
I love you, you understand.

So, reel me in, my precious girl,
Come on, take me home.
'Cause my body's tired of travelling
And my heart don't wish to roam.

No, no.

I have wandered, I have rambled
I have crossed this crowded sphere,
And I've seen a mass of problems
That I long to disappear.
Now, all I have's this anguished heart,
For you have vanished too.
Oh, my girl, my girl, my precious girl,
Just what is this man to do?

So, reel me in, my precious girl,
Come on, take me home.
'Cause my body's tired of travelling
And my heart don't wish to roam.

Yeah, reel me in, my precious girl,
Come on, take me home.
'Cause my body's tired of travelling
And my heart don't wish to roam.

No, no.

Well, you took me in, you stole my heart,
I cannot roam no more.
Because love, it stays within you,
It doesn't wash up on a shore.
But a fighting man forgets each cut
Each knock, each bruise, each fall,
But a fighting man cannot forget
Why his love don't roam no more.

Oh, reel me in, my precious girl,
Come on, take me home.
'Cause my body's tired of travelling
And my heart don't wish to roam.

Yeah, reel me in, my precious girl,
Come on, take me home.
'Cause my body's tired of travelling
And my heart don't wish to roam.

Yeah, walk with me, my love, my love,
Walk tall, walk proud, walk far,
For you are my love, you are, you are,
You are my shining star.

Walk with me, oh my love,
Walk tall, walk proud, walk far.
For you are my love, you are, you are,
You are my shining star, you are, you are.
Yeah!

Reel me in, my precious girl,
Come on, take me home.
My body's tired of travelling
And my heart don't wish to roam.

Reel me in, my precious girl,
Come on, take me home.
My body's tired of travelling
And my heart don't wish to roam.

Reel me in, my precious girl,
Come on, take me home.
My body's tired of travelling
And my heart don't wish to roam.[fade out]
