Fencing Sculptor's Diary

The Ramblings of a Reluctant Civil Servant

Meme's the Word....

A good friend fired a jovial broadside comment recently about the use of memes in blogs.

I think he was having a pop at the use of them, which in some way is messing up the format of other friends pages.

..I didn't even know what a meme was beyond a bit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally and can take oon a life of it's own.

I didn't realised that in a LJ context these were those "how evil am I", "what tarot card am I", "what Muppet am I", or "how much work time am I wasting right now".... type questionnaires.

In fact I'm still not sure ....i looked it all up on thar interweb thing and there were lots of words about mutating memes and virus memes and no pretty pictures ... I got bored and drifted off to something more shiny.....

Suffice to say LJ does all manner of weird stuff when I select different options to view my recent history, or friends pages.....

I don't 'get' banners or memes or animated gif's ....and while I don't want to unintentionally cause offence or inconvenience I just don't feel the need to bond any further with LJ ... I fear I'm running out of spare brain capacity ......

Hurrah !

A package has just landed on my desk containing the 2 disc Collectors Edition of Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

It only cost something like £4.49

I have made a discovery which I now wish to pass on to the world.

*clears throat *

Step 1. Take a glass and place two and a half heaped spoons of instant coffee and two and a half heaped spoons of sugar in the glass.

Step 2. Add a 'small amount' of boiling water to the glass enough to give you a very hot syrupy coffee mixture.

Step 3. Place the 'coffee syrup' in the fridge and allow to cool.

Step 4. Take a large glass or better still a ridiculously large glass/flagon. Fill half with cold milk. To this add vanilla ice cream shavings until the 'ridiculously large glass' is three quarters full. Now whisk or blend the milk and the ice cream until you have a thick frothy mixture.

Step 5. Add the 'thick sweet coffee syrup' to the 'thick frothy ice cream and milk ' and mix vigorously. Add one humungous scoop of vanilla ice cream to the 'ridiculously large glass' .

Step 6. Consume your 'Iced Coffee with Vanilla Float'TM.

Note of Extreme Caution: Avoid the temptation of repeating Steps 1 to 6 another five times or until you have exhausted your supply of ice cream and milk……
(not as easy as it sounds)

I expect to win the nobel peace prize or some such worthy award for this shared wisdom.....

Next week I will be training one T (Thompson rather than Tiberius) Kirk in the art of sword combat.

For a particularly childish reasons I am really hoping his middle name is James.

I wonder if he will come to class in a gold velour top....

Mind you I thought it was the Enterprise Helm Officer that was the fencer....

Maybe I should attend as a Gorn.......
